A fundamental change is occurring in what’s considered “instructional best practice” when working with students who may be performing below grade-level expectations. This shift is captured in the mantra, “Accelerate, don’t remediate.” There’s a rising emphasis on “Accelerated Learning” strategies, but, for many educators, this approach is new,

This session will explore this shift by highlighting the primary changes in focus required by Accelerated Learning during both regular classroom instruction and during intervention. We will also review essential pieces of research and key documents that provide detailed guidance on how to easily implement the approach. Finally, we will explore the Focus Skills Resource Center, a free online tool available to all educators that supports Accelerated Learning by identifying the most essential skills across all grades for progress in reading and mathematics.

Though the primary emphasis of this session will be on instructional approaches, resources, and tools available to all, we will quickly illustrate an application of this approach as well.
